Tarn is a department of the Midi-Pyrenees in France created in 1790 after the French revolution. It is part of the region of Midi-Pyrénées.

It borders the departments of Aveyron, Hérault, Aude, Haute-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne. The main river Tarn. While the Tarn valley forms a plain, the center of the department is hilly. The south consists of a solid rock: the Black Mountain.

Covering an area of 5,758 km2 369 000 inhabitants, the Prefecture of the Tarn Albi, whose center is classified as World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since the summer of 2010.
